First of all, I think you totally missed the point and that was the steps you laid forth as written fail because you cannot patch nonexistent files since in step 1 you completely removed VMware Workstation and step 2 downloading and applying patches to file that don't exist because your steps do not include reinstalling VMware Workstation!
Secondly there was no mention of KB 38 in your steps and reply to volkerbradley and besides that the KB is for "manually removing VMware Workstation when the uninstaller script or RPM package fails to remove the product automatically" so if one runs "/usr/bin/vmware-installer -u vmware-workstation", which by the way is not one of the steps mentioned in KB 38, and it finishes the uninstall successfully then there really shouldn't be a need to turn to KB 38 anyway.
